Youth Effectiveness Course
How can the Youth Effectiveness course benefit learners?
Youth Effectiveness teaches learners a comprehensive set of skills as well as a framework for knowing how and when to use these skills to establish open, honest, and healthy relationships at school, in public, and at home.
Adolescence can be a tricky time; teenagers are struggling to find out who they are, to succeed in school, to find out what will give them feelings of personal achievement, and high self-esteem. They’re trying to make friends, to fit in, and to get along with their parents and teachers.
The Youth Effectiveness course skill set helps them develop themselves socially and emotionally by offering them both basic personal development skills as well as relationship skills that they can use in all areas of their lives and for a lifetime.
Learners will learn how to:
– Become aware of their essential needs
– Talk about their needs, concerns, and problems without blaming others.
– Make and keep friends.
– Relate to people who are different from them.
– Resolve conflicts with friends, family, and others instead of arguing and fighting.
– Develop an action plan for meeting their important goals.
The advantages of effective youth communication:
– A better understanding of themselves and others.
– Meet their own needs and goals and overcome fears.
– Know how to confront bullies and stand up for others who are being bullied.
– Less stress and tension in their lives both at home and at school.
– Maintain healthy relationships with friends, teachers, and parents.

A brief background:
The Youth Effectiveness (Y.E.T.) course was created by award-winning psychologist and three-time Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, Dr Thomas Gordon in the early 1970’s.
Between 1978 and 1998, over 42,000 youth participated in Y.E.T. in the United States and an additional 19,000 took the course in other countries including Sweden, Finland, Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Hungary, South Africa, The Netherlands, and Madagascar. Finland is the place where Y.E.T. has experienced by far more success than anywhere else in the world.
The programme offers learners the essential communication and conflict resolution skills they need to have high quality relationships with their friends, parents, and teachers so there will be less conflict and more peaceful conflict resolutions.
